At Betta Fire Protection, your safety is always our priority. While smoke alarms, extinguishers, fire doors and other forms of fire protection are often top of the safety agenda, windows must also be maintained.
Window safety is vital for protecting people in buildings, particularly children, so speak to the experts at Betta Fire Protection today.
Every year, an average of more than ten children are hospitalised from falling out of windows in NSW alone, with 80% of those children being under the age of 5 and experiencing severe injuries.
To combat this devasting trend, NSW Government requires strata schemes with residential lots to install safety devices on all bedroom windows that present a risk to young children.
Faulty, damaged or poorly installed windows and restriction devices are responsible for far too many injuries and fatalities, and perhaps the worst part is that most of these incidents are avoidable if the windows had undergone adequate lock and tension testing.
Be committed to safety and have your window tension testing done today so your children don’t become part of this statistic.
Our team specialises in the supply, installation, maintenance, and certification of child-safe windows according to NSW Strata Regulations and Australian Standard 5203.
Having worked closely with Strata Managers for over 40 years, we can help you keep on top of compliance; your window safety is in safe hands.
The Strata Schemes Management Regulation 2016 (NSW) states that all strata buildings in NSW must be fitted with devices that restrict windows from opening at 12.5cm or more when the devices are in use.
This law applies to openable windows with sills less than 1.7m above the inside floor and more than 2m above the floor level outside, while owner’s corporations must have devices installed on all windows above the ground floor.
Don’t leave children and people exposed to the risk of falling, or your building liable for council fines for noncompliance, call Betta Fire Protection today!
Window safety applies not just to strata buildings, but also to homes more generally. We can carry out window safety and tension testing for all properties so you can rest assured your windows are compliant and functional.

Need professional window tension testing? Our dedicated team can inspect and test your windows to ensure you meet the correct standards.
To pass National Construction Code (NCC) standards, the restriction (device or screen) is required to:
- Restrict window openings to less than 125mm;
- Not permit a sphere of 125mm diameter to pass through the window opening or barrier screen;
- Resist an outward horizontal force through the opening of 250 newtons (equivalent to 25.49Kg) while the window is restrained by a restriction device or barrier screen protecting the opening.
- Have a child-resistant release mechanism, so the screen or lock cannot be removed, unlocked or overridden.
